Feedburner RSS Service
The workshops also demonstrated how Agencies can leverage the free Feedburner service to:
- Enable multiple subscription methods
- Analyze & measure usage
- Republish in Different Formats
The CA State Portal "Highlights" is enabled as a subscribable feed via Feedburner. You can view how this subscription
service looks to the public here:
RSS
Additionally you can provide a direct link to subscribe by Email
Also, When you utilize FeedBurner, you get the option of publishing your feed via a powerful widget provided by SpringWidgets. Below the SpringWidget RSS Widget is showcased with the CA State Portal Highlights feed.

RSS Feeds Workshops - 8/4 & 8/5 of 2008
Webmasters from various Agencies took part in the workshops to learn about the RSS technology, and how to develop and deploy RSS Feeds.
A key "take-away" from the workshop was an understanding of how the "publish-subscribe" feed model works over the Web. Agencies can leverage this capability to enable their constituents to:
- Find and receive their important messages in a timely, relevant, and convenient manner,
- And to receive that information via any channel (browser, smartphone, webpage, email, etc.) without having to ever visit the Agency website.
The following lists the main tasks that are "worked" through during the course of the workshop.
- Create an RSS feed file
- Publish it on a webserver
- Display it in a webpage/widget
- Establish the RSS feed with Feedburner (including utilizing their email subscription service "on top of" the RSS feed)
The RSS files developed during the class can be viewed at the left - or also viewed within the widgets below.
Please Note: these are not "official" RSS feeds. They were only created for the learning experience during the class, and they are hosted here only for demonstration purposes.
